Work on transforming a historic Prescot street is due to begin in April.
Phase One of the redevelopment will see Atherton Street’s road and pavement resurfaced in natural stone – materials similar to that used for extensive work on nearby Leyland Street.
Formalised on-street parking and improved pedestrian crossing facilities also form part of the initial phase, which is expected to last three months.
The finished redevelopment will reflect the town centre’s rich heritage and history.
Knowsley Council are hoping to secure further funding for Phase Two, which, if successful, will transform the pedestrianised area around the mature oak tree at the junction with Eccleston Street.
