The Mayor of Prescot 2020/21 – Cllr Mark Joseph Burke
It is both a great honour and privilege to have been elected as Mayor of Prescot during a particularly testing time in our Towns History. I intend to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role in these difficult times to the very best of my ability.
I am proud to have been born, raised and schooled in Prescot and to have lived here for over 50 years. I am the son of a Prescotian, who was also the son of a Prescotian. Prescot is in my blood.
Myself and my wife Julie, ably supported by our sons Cameron and Mackenzie, are looking forward to represent Prescot. We anticipate helping and promoting our local groups and organisations in our community and plan to help raise funds to support them during the year. Normal fundraising activities may well be restricted as sadly we have already had to cancel the historic Elizabethan Fair, nationally famous Prescot Festival, the talent laden Prescots Got Talent and the fantastic Prescot Carnival. These events all attract visitors from far and wide. We will just have to be a little more creative in our fundraising efforts. We might not be able to shake hands or give people a hug but we will be there when we are needed. We are living in strange times but hopefully we can all help each other maintain community spirit through them.
I know that I can rely on the experienced team of town council staff and also my fellow dedicated town councillors to support me through the year ahead.
