Local organisation AFG donates to Knowsley Young Carers at Christmas
Christmas boost for children and young care leavers
Alternative Futures Group (AFG) has joined forces with Knowsley Council to donate Christmas sacks to support children who may not be spending Christmas with their families.
Kind-hearted AFG staff have generously filled 25 Christmas sacks to help bring some cheer to children and care leavers. Clothing, toiletries, stationery and household products were amongst the items donated to support the council’s appeal for children and care leavers.
Handing over the gifts to the council, AFG Director of Mental Health Chris Hughes said:
“This is a fantastic initiative and we are excited to be involved this year. Most of us take Christmas for granted in a warm, happy and safe environment with all the essentials taken care of but care leavers often can’t. So, if we can bring some festive cheer and practical support to them then we will be delighted.”
Colette Dutton, the council’s Executive Director for Children’s Services, added “I’m delighted that AFG has supported our appeal and helped to give a number of the borough’s children and young people a better Christmas.”
Care experienced young people face the challenge of living independently at a younger age than their peers and without the consistent support of family members. They are also more likely to face financial hardship. The gift sacks are an important reminder that they are valued and cared about.
