Help Build Knowsley’s Lost Castle!
Be part of this once in a lifetime opportunity celebrating the unique local history and heritage by helping to build Knowsley’s Lost Castle!
Whether you are an individual or are part of a group, we are looking for a large team of enthusiastic individuals to get involved with our Lost Castles project.
Working as part of a creative team, with renowned French artist Olivier Grossetete, you will help to create a huge cardboard castle that will amaze all of the people who come along to see it in its full splendour at Knowsley Safari. You will be remembered as someone who made this happen! Taking inspiration from Elsinore Castle, one of William Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Hamlet, Knowsley’s Lost Castle will be constructed at Knowsley Safari and will and be in situ from Friday 10th to Sunday 12th August.
Knowsley’s Lost Castle celebrates Knowsley’s fascinating links with Shakespeare, as it is the only English town outside of London to have a purpose built indoor playhouse and the support and patronage of the Earls of Derby at Knowsley Hall. The support and patronage of the Earls of Derby at Knowsley Hall played a notable part in the development of English drama, so it is fitting that the castle is constructed at the Safari which is part of the Knowsley Estate. And with the new Shakespeare North Playhouse iconic reproduction of a 350 seat Jacobean theatre and education space to open in 2020, it will also celebrate Knowsley’s links with Elizabethan drama and Shakespeare.
